A free 5GB cloud drive with Google sounds good to me. I haven't read the article, but one could always use: TrueCrypt or some other type of file encryption.

If you prefer not to use the DiskPart Utility included in Windows 7, then I would recomend Paragon's Hard Disk Manager 11 Professional

Don't forget -

I agree - manually entering the DNS information should work, but as an easier alternative, why not set up a proxy server/app such as WinProxy and just block everything except the site(s) allowed?
